Using Multiple Components

Can I use all parts at once?

You can use the EMDR Kit Wireless or Classic components (Light Tube, Pulsators, and Headphone) simultaneously for a complete EMDR experience, or use them individually to achieve the desired level of working memory taxation for your client.

How to manage your components

Our equipment is designed for flexibility. Whether you use one, two, or all three modalities at the same time, the tactile and auditory bilateral stimulation will always be synchronized with the visual stimulation of the Light Tube.

  • For the EMDR Kit Wireless: You can choose which modalities are active directly within the EMDR Kit app. Simply connect the specific components you wish to use via Bluetooth. If you do not want to use a component, leave it turned off or disconnected in the app.

  • For the EMDR Kit Classic: Connect the cables of your desired modalities to the controller. If you do not want to use a specific modality during a session, you can simply unplug it from the controller.

Choosing Your Modalities

While you have the option to use all components at once, the choice usually depends on your client's tolerance and the amount of Working Memory Taxation (WMT) required to facilitate processing.

When to use a single modality

Standard EMDR protocols typically begin with visual stimulation (the Light Tube). You might choose to use just one modality for clients who:

  • Are easily overstimulated or highly dissociative.

  • Have specific sensory sensitivities (e.g., omitting pulsators for a client who dislikes tactile input).

  • Are already sufficiently taxing their working memory with eye movements alone.

When to use multiple modalities (EMDR 2.0)

Combining visual, auditory, and tactile stimulation is a highly effective way to increase cognitive load. Following EMDR 2.0 principles, if a client's processing stalls or they habituate quickly to a single stimulus, adding pulsators and headphones maximizes working memory taxation. This forces the brain to work harder to track multiple stimuli, which can help restart stalled processing or deepen desensitization for highly charged memories.
