How can I prevent losing the Bluetooth connection?
Maintaining a stable connection between your EMDR Kit Wireless, Pulsators, and smartphone is vital for uninterrupted EMDR sessions. While Bluetooth technology is professional-grade, specific environmental factors can occasionally cause a disconnect, particularly on sensitive devices.
We understand that a disconnect can be very disruptive during an EMDR session. By keeping the following five factors in mind, you can significantly reduce the likelihood of a signal interruption.
1. Impeding objects
All physical objects placed between your smartphone and the Pulsators can have a negative effect on the quality of the Bluetooth signal. We recommend ensuring there is a clear "line of sight" between your control device and the hardware. For example, a heavy wooden table, metal filing cabinets, or thick office partitions can interfere with the connection.
2. The way a client holds the pulsators
Human bodies are highly effective at blocking high-frequency radio signals. Some clients may instinctively hold the Pulsators in their armpits, under their legs, or tight against their chest. This "body blocking" makes it much harder for the signal to reach your smartphone. Ensuring your client is holding the Pulsators in a way that does not completely envelope them within their body or limbs reduces the chance of a lost connection.
3. Distance
The Bluetooth signal becomes progressively weaker as the distance between the Pulsators and your smartphone increases. For a stable session, we recommend a maximum distance of 3 meters (10 feet). Positioning yourself or your phone closer to the client will ensure the most robust connection.
4. Placement of the smartphone and use of accessories
For optimum performance, we recommend placing your smartphone or tablet in an upright position. In most modern mobile devices, the Bluetooth antenna is located in the upper portion of the casing.
Use a Stand: Using a smartphone or tablet stand keeps the device upright and the antenna clear.
Remove Barriers: Protective sleeves, heavy-duty cases, or tablet keyboards can act as additional barriers. If you experience frequent drops, try removing the case during the session.
5. Connections to other Bluetooth devices
If your smartphone is currently connected to multiple devices via Bluetooth (such as a smartwatch, external speakers, or car kit), it can reduce the overall bandwidth and quality available for your therapy equipment. For the most reliable performance, we recommend only pairing your phone with the EMDR Kit components during the session.
How to Recover From a Disconnect
If a disconnect does occur during a session, follow these steps to restore the connection as quickly as possible:
Wake the Hardware: First, ensure the Pulsators are awake by giving them a quick shake. Check that they are flashing blue, which indicates they are ready to pair.
Use the App Menu: Navigate to the menu in the app and select "Reconnect All." This will attempt to re-establish the link with all previously used components.
Choose Devices: Alternatively, you can go to the "Devices" section in the menu and manually tap the icons for the parts that have disconnected.
Reset Connections: If the issue remains, select "Forget All" in the app. This clears the current memory, allowing you to make fresh connections.
Check Battery Levels: Ensure the disconnect wasn't caused by a low battery. If a component is no longer flashing blue after being shaken or turned on, place it on the charger or docking station.
