What are Profiles and how do I use them?
In the EMDR Kit app, Profiles (also referred to as presets) allow you to save specific combinations of speed, color, intensity, width and other settings. This feature is designed to help you quickly switch between different settings without manual adjustment during an EMDR session.
By using Profiles, you can ensure a consistent experience for your clients and reduce the "technical" time spent adjusting sliders, allowing you to focus entirely on the therapeutic process.
Why use Profiles?
Each client and protocol requires a different level of stimulation. Profiles allow you to:
Switch Settings Instantly: Move from a slow, calming speed for resource installation to a high-speed setting for EMDR 2.0.
Consistency: Ensure that you are using the exact same stimulation parameters across multiple sessions for the same client.
Efficiency: Avoid the distraction of moving sliders while trying to maintain clinical engagement with your client.
How to Create and Save a Profile
Setting up your own library of settings is simple:
Adjust your Settings: Use the sliders in the app to set your desired LightTube speed, color, and width, as well as the vibration intensity for the Pulsators.
Open the Profile Menu: Navigate to the menu in the top-left corner and select "Profiles" or look for the "Save" icon on the main control screen.
Save New Profile: Tap the "+" button or "Save Current Settings" option.
Name Your Profile: Give the profile a clear name, such as "Intensive WMT" or "Resource Installation". We advise against using client names for privacy reasons.
Confirm: Save the profile to your list.
How to Activate a Saved Profile
When you are ready to use a saved setting during a session:
Open Profiles: Go to the Profile section in the app menu.
Select and Apply: Tap on the name of the Profile you wish to use.
Instant Sync: The Light Tube, Pulsators, and Headphones will automatically adjust to the saved settings simultaneously.
Pro-Tip: Organizing Your Workflow
Many clinicians find it helpful to create a "Baseline" profile that is set to moderate speed and neutral colors. This allows you to have a safe "home base" to return to if a client becomes overwhelmed or if you need to quickly reset the stimulation between sets.
